Keeping active is key to staying healthy for older people, leading local doctors advise

on .

Local doctors are encouraging older people across South Staffordshire to keep active, to help take the edge off the cold winter weather and stay healthy.

Physical activity can also help maintain independence and improve your sense of wellbeing Whilst it can be tempting to curl up at home when the weather is cold, being too inactive can have a negative impact on both physical and mental health.

GPs in South East Staffs and Seisdon Peninsula CCG will soon be offering electronic prescriptions to their patients

on .

Patients in South East Staffs and Seisdon Peninsula will soon be able to benefit from a free NHS service that reduces the need to visit the GP surgery just to collect a paper prescription.

The Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) will be rolled out to a number of GP practices over the coming months. Our first practice to ‘Go Live’ will be Gravel Hill Surgery in Wombourne at the end of February.

The EPS service means a patient will be able to choose for their prescriptions to be securely sent electronically from their GP to a nominated pharmacy or dispensing appliance contractor of their choice.

Benefits to patients include:

  • Choosing a pharmacy that is most convenient to you, such as one near work, home or the weekly shop
  • No trips to the GP practice just to collect prescriptions, which will especially help those who receive repeat prescriptions
  • Shorter waits at the pharmacy, as prescriptions can be prepared in advance.

Patients wishing to use EPS should to talk to their pharmacy or GP and nominate the pharmacy or dispensing appliance contractor (DAC) that they wish to use. Those wishing to continue with paper prescriptions do not need to do anything.

It is important to note that you do NOT need a computer to use the EPS Service.

Dr Tim Dukes, Locality Director for Seisdon Peninsula with the CCG, said:

"Among several benefits of introducing the EPS is the impact it will have on prescription collection, making it far more convenient for those patients who wish to use the service.

Gravel Hill Surgery is the first GP Practice to be adopting the EPS, but expect to see it at your local surgery over the coming months."
