Doctors are encouraging people to stay well this festive season by seeking help from their local pharmacy for expert advice and treatment for minor health problems.
Pharmacists are qualified to provide expert advice and prescribe treatment for many winter illnesses such as sore throats and runny noses. With many GP surgeries closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, local pharmacies can provide a valuable service to the public to avoid an unnecessary trip to their local hospital.
Dr John James, a GP and Chair of South East Staffordshire and Seisdon Peninsula Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), said: “This Christmas we are asking the public to think pharmacy first. Pharmacists are qualified to give advice on a wide range of illnesses, common ailments, seasonal illnesses and any particular symptoms you are worried about
“A lot of people don’t realise how useful their pharmacy can be. Most GP surgeries will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day so we would encourage the public to seek help at their local pharmacy.
“We would also encourage patients to order any medication they need in plenty of time so they have a good supply during the festive period. We really would encourage patients to do this now and not wait.”
