For the help you need at Christmas and New Year - NHS111 and your local pharmacy

Make sure you know how to access help this Christmas season. The advice from the NHS in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent is to make the most of NHS 111 and local pharmacists, and to make sure they’re all stocked up for the winter season.

NHS 111 is a free helpline provided by the NHS which is operated by fully trained advisers 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

After you have described your symptoms, they will direct your call to the appropriate health care help. The new NHS 111 app can also give the same support through your mobile, computer or tablet.

Don't forget your local pharmacist – they are medically trained experts who give professional advice on a wide range of treatments. They also stock a variety of over-the-counter remedies for things like coughs, colds, sore throats and upset stomachs. It’s free and friendly advice, and you don’t need an appointment – some pharmacies also have private consultation rooms.

For more information on opening times for pharmacies in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent visit the NHS England website.

By taking advantage of all the resources available for health advice, you can make the best use of your time over the holiday season.

You can access the NHS 111 app via www.111.nhs.uk.
