The summer holidays are finally here!

Are you ready for the school summer holiday? Doctors in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent are reminding parents to remember their pharmacist when stocking up on summer essentials.

During the school summer holiday, children will be going out with their friends, socialising and making the most of their freedom. Cuts, bruises, bites, stings and sunburn are all potential incidents, so local NHS advice is to have the essential treatments at hand, just in case.

Essential items every household should have:

  • First aid kit (including bandages, plasters, antiseptic wipes etc.)
  • Sunscreen (at least factor 15)
  • Antihistamine tablets (useful for dealing with insect bites and allergies such as hay fever)
  • Anti-diarrhoea tablets.

Dr Steve Fawcett, local GP and medical director of North Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Clinical Commissioning Groups said: “By planning ahead and taking a few simple steps, parents will be ready for the summer holiday. Your local pharmacist can provide medicine cabinet essentials and offer expert advice on the best treatments for your children if you need medical attention.”
