Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent’s  Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP) for developing local health and social care services over the next five years has been published today, Thursday 15 December 2016, for further public discussion and feedback.

This follows on from a series of ten “Conversation Staffordshire” and “Conversation Stoke-on-Trent” events hosted by both local Healthwatch organisations during November and December.  Full reports on the events will be made available by Healthwatch. 

Be prepared for Christmas and issue your repeat prescriptions now

As Christmas approaches, there are lots of things to think about and medication needs can often get forgotten - but health chiefs are reminding patients to be prepared and stock-up now.

Many GP practices and pharmacies will have limited opening hours between Christmas and New Year, so Stafford and Surrounds, Cannock Chase and South East Staffordshire and Seisdon Peninsula Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) are advising those with long-term conditions to order and collect their repeat prescriptions in plenty of time.

Repeat prescriptions can be ordered online by using GP Online Services, a simple website that can also be used to make and cancel appointments and view medical records.

Together UK mental wellbeing services

Together for Mental Wellbeing is delivering and developing mental health Inclusion and Recovery support across Lichfield, Tamworth, and East Staffordshire from 1 November 2016. The new service will work with people in a flexible way, tailoring support to their wants and needs and working alongside them to achieve goals that are important to them. 

Two stakeholder engagement events are being held in January 2017 as a chance for stakeholders and partners to come together and find out more about Together UK and the mental wellbeing service they will be offering across East Staffordshire, Lichfield and Tamworth.

Do you have chronic kidney disease? Get your flu jab!

Health leaders are reminding people with chronic kidney disease in south Staffordshire to have their free ‘flu jab if they haven’t already as winter begins to grip.

As Christmas creeps closer the ‘flu season begins to take hold - particularly when the temperature drops and winter illnesses start to circulate. This is why Stafford and Surrounds, Cannock Chase and South East Staffordshire and Seisdon Peninsula Clinical Commissioning Groups are calling on patients to take precautions.

Fire minister urges us all to test the smoke alarms in our homes now and every month

Fire Minister Brandon Lewis has urged people to test their smoke alarms after research showed that only 28 per cent of all households who own one test them on a regular basis.

As the Fire Kills campaign launched on Monday 7 November, the Minister has highlighted the importance of having at least one working smoke alarm in your home and encouraged everyone to test their smoke alarms immediately and then regularly every month.
